SL vs HL

What IB Math AA SL covers — and what it drops

AA SL covers roughly the first 70% of the AA HL syllabus and is assessed on Papers 1 and 2 only — there is no Paper 3. Compared with HL, SL drops the AHL extensions: complex numbers, vectors, proof by induction, partial fractions, Maclaurin series, L'Hôpital's rule and the harder differential equations. Every cheatsheet on this hub is the same page an HL student uses, but each section is labelled SL or AHL — so you read only the SL-tagged parts and skip the rest. Prefer the full higher-level set? FAQ

IB Math AA SL frequently asked questions

A few questions IB students and parents in Singapore often ask about the IB Math AA SL course and these resources.

How is IB Math AA SL different from AA HL?
AA SL and AA HL share the same five themes and the same core content, but SL omits the AHL extension sub-topics (complex numbers, vectors, proof by induction, partial fractions, Maclaurin series, and the harder calculus) and has no Paper 3. AA SL is examined on Paper 1 (no calculator) and Paper 2 (calculator). On every cheatsheet here, sections are tagged SL or AHL so SL students read only the SL parts.
Is a calculator allowed in IB Math AA SL?
On Paper 1 no calculator is allowed, so you must be fluent with exact values, algebra and by-hand differentiation. Paper 2 allows a graphical calculator (GDC). Each cheatsheet flags which methods are GDC-friendly and which you must do by hand for Paper 1.
How many topics are in the IB Math AA SL syllabus?
The SL course draws on all five themes — Number & Algebra, Functions, Geometry & Trigonometry, Statistics & Probability, and Calculus. This hub curates the ten cheatsheets whose syllabus references include SL content.
Are these IB Math AA SL cheatsheets free?
Yes — every topic page and its printable PDF are free with no sign-up. The paid Lifetime Library adds full Notes, Tutorial booklets and mark-scheme Solutions; enrolled Photon Academy students get it free.
What is a good score in IB Math AA SL?
A 7 in AA SL typically needs around 80% of the marks, and the grade is decided as much by avoiding careless errors as by knowing content. The red TRAP boxes on each cheatsheet list the exact places SL students lose marks — read them first.
