SL vs HL

What IB Math AI SL covers — and what it drops

AI SL is the modelling-and-technology maths course, examined on Papers 1 and 2 only (a GDC is allowed on both) with no Paper 3. Compared with AI HL, SL drops the AHL topics entirely — matrices, eigenvalues and Markov chains, complex numbers, vectors, graph theory, affine transformations, confidence intervals and differential equations. The seventeen cheatsheets below are the SL-relevant pages; each section is tagged SL or AHL so you focus on the SL content. Prefer the full higher-level set? Browse the AI HL cheatsheet hub.

FAQ

IB Math AI SL frequently asked questions

A few questions IB students and parents in Singapore often ask about the IB Math AI SL course and these resources.

How is IB Math AI SL different from AI HL?
Both are modelling-focused with a calculator on every paper, but AI SL omits the AHL topics — matrices, eigenvalues/Markov chains, complex numbers, vectors, graph theory, affine transformations, confidence intervals and differential equations — and has no Paper 3. Sections on each cheatsheet are tagged SL or AHL so SL students read only the SL parts.
Is a calculator allowed in IB Math AI SL?
Yes — a graphical display calculator is allowed on both AI SL papers. Marks are earned by choosing the right model and reading the answer correctly, so knowing your GDC's statistics, regression and finance menus is essential. Each cheatsheet flags the exact GDC steps.
How many topics are in the IB Math AI SL syllabus?
AI SL draws on all five themes — Number & Algebra, Functions, Geometry & Trigonometry, Statistics & Probability, and Calculus. This hub curates the seventeen cheatsheets whose syllabus references include SL content.
Should I take AI SL or AA SL?
Choose AI SL if you prefer real-world data, statistics and technology over abstract algebra, and if your university course does not require the AA syllabus. AI SL leans on the GDC and modelling; AA SL leans on algebra and a no-calculator Paper 1. Our AA-vs-AI guide compares them in detail.
Are these IB Math AI SL cheatsheets free?
Yes — every topic page and its printable PDF are free with no sign-up. The paid Lifetime Library adds full Notes, Tutorial booklets, mark-scheme Solutions and predicted-paper questions; enrolled Photon Academy students get it free.
