Exponentials & Logarithms — IB Maths AA HL Practice

Logarithms and exponentials appear on every AA HL paper. Climb from evaluating logs and the log laws to solving exponential equations and the HL 'hidden quadratic' in $e^{x}$ — with a worked example every time you slip.

The idea

A logarithm asks "what power?". $\log_b x = y$ means $b^{y}=x$. So $\log_b(b^{k})=k$.
💡 Read off the exponent: $\log_2 32=\log_2 2^{5}=5$.
